UPDATE: Highway 40 now open again

Update (7:00 p.m.) Grande Prairie RCMP now say officers responded to three seperate collisions on Highway 40 Friday morning.

One injured male was airlifted to hospital but no details on his injuries has been released. Crews remain on scene cleaning up oil but the highway is open to traffic.

The collisions remain under investigation. 

Update (5:30 p.m.) According to 511 Alberta, Highway 40 near Cutbank River Bridge, south of Grande Prairie, is now open in both directions.

Update (3:45 p.m.) RCMP say the road is still closed and they can’t provide any more details at this time.

Update (2:15 p.m.) STARS has confirmed they transported a 46-year-old male to the QEII Hospital in Stable condition.

Update (12:08 p.m.)  Grande Prairie RCMP are responding to two separate collisions involving semi trucks approximately 45 km South of Grande Prairie on Highway 40.  RCMP, Fire and emergency medical services are on the scene.  Please expect lengthy delays if you are travelling on Highway 40.

(11:27 a.m.) We are hearing reports of a multi-vehicle collision on Highway 40 South of Grande Prairie.  A caller to our newsroom tells us the collision involved two semis and a vac truck.  He said traffic was stopped in both directions.  The collision is reportedly near North Imperial Road..  Stars Air Ambulance was dispatched to a scene call emergency on Highway 40 at 10:41 a.m.
