Nitehawk to open in late April for the first time ever

Apr 18, 2018 | 5:30 AM

Snowboarders and skiers alike can rejoice as Nitehawk has announced it will be open this weekend.

Assistant General Manager Jonathan Clarkson said the ski hill will operate for five months for the first time ever, thanks to the latest blast of snow.

“The snow is in just as good of shape as it was in January as it is right now at the end of April, which is just unheard of. Seeing that we have all that snow, it would be a waste if we were to close and not let the community enjoy it.”

This year has seen a surplus of skiers and snowboarders hitting the slopes which can be related to the extended winter. The hill is also a hit in the City and surrounding areas.

“One of our events saw 1,200 people come out for free skiing on one of those Friday nights. The community is certainly supporting Nitehawk and we are happy for that and being a not for profit recreation area it’s definitely important to have that support,” said Clarkson.

Once the snow does melt and the warm weather arrives, the Year-Round-Adventure Park’s staff will switch gears into summer mode which includes preparing a downhill mountain biking park, summer bike camps in July and August, and the Bear Paw Par 3 Golf Course.

Clarkson added that two years ago at this time it went from below average temperatures to 32 above in a span of about two weeks.

There will be some specials continuing from the customer appreciation day last weekend. That includes $15 lift tickets, rental packages, and tubing. There is also a $99 family lift and rental package.

The ski hill will be open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
